Case in point: My brother, Ryan, has a severe turkey allergy. (Yeah, Thanksgiving with our family is always interesting!) During his years at St. Olaf when eating a special student government functions (especially at the president’s house), then-manager Marietta would always prepare him a special plate — from a lovely salmon to filet mignon.

please don’t use tables even though they work finewhen it...

please don’t use tables even though they work fine
when it come to indexing they give searches a hard time

Apparently, not easy enough. Meet Posterous!

Since I started blogging, it’s been really interesting to see the evolution of blogging tools (and blogging itself). I started blogging by hand back in 2000 (good ol’ HTML and FTP), and five months into it switched to Blogger. As Blogger evolved, so did blogging; what used to be a quick post dashed off about something interesting on the ‘Net was now becoming something much more complicated — a long, thought-out essay with a title, a “permalink,” an archived location, comments, and more. Somehow, all the fun had been taken out of spontaneous blogging. It had become work.

That is why I am delighted to see the return of tools that are bringing blogging back to its roots. Tumblr. Twitter (although I’ve yet to figure that out yet!). And now Posterous. (And probably half a dozen more out there!) See something intersting on the web? Got something quick to say about what’s happening? Click and blog it. That’s it.

The fun is coming back.

Tiny URL developer basking in website's success

Tiny URL developer basking in website's success: Local web guy does good!

That design is money!

That design is money!: How much do you think about the way you interact with a cash machine? Therefore, when something goes wrong, it’s very nice to receive e-mails like the following message I received today from Netflix:

Dear Lynsey,

As you may have heard, our shipping system was unexpectedly down for most of Monday. We should have shipped you a DVD but were unable to. Your DVD was shipped today, Tuesday, March 25th, instead.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We will issue a 5% credit to your account in the next few days. You don’t need to do anything. The credit will be automatically applied to your next billing statement.

Again, we apologize for the delay and thank you for your understanding. If you need further assistance, please call us at 1 (888) 638-3549.

-The Netflix Team

Sure, I was supposed to get a DVD on Monday. And sure, I was kinda bummed it didn’t arrive (considering there’s nothing to watch on the DVR these days). But it wasn’t a major life crisis and never did I think that the company “owed” me anything. So, way to go, Netflix!

What you see is what you get?

What you see is what you get?

I had no idea everyone hated Sandra Lee so much

I had no idea everyone hated Sandra Lee so much: (Read the comments.)

Cricket Lee Takes On the Fashion Industry

Cricket Lee Takes On the Fashion Industry: Enough is enough! It’s about time that someone has taken on the fashion industry to push for a universal standard for sizing women’s clothes. I have long known that something is wrong with women’s sizing, considering that in my favorite brand I fit in a size 4 (and once even a size 2!), in another brand a size 6, and yet another brand a size 10. Find pants that fit in a brand I’ve never tried before? Forget it!
